Stewardship Award
Up to two awards ($10,000), this award honors a history of extraordinary achievements in people leadership and resource management that serves the Lab and enables its mission of bringing scientific solutions to the world. As leaders and citizens of the Lab, we are entrusted to care for the people, research, and resources that make our mission possible, a responsibility we call stewardship.
Director’s Award for Exceptional Achievement
Around 15 individual (up to $5,000) or team (up to $5,000) awards are presented in any of the following seven areas of achievement:
Organizational Impact: Recognizes outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the following areas in support of the Lab’s mission and strategic goals enhancing: processes, cross-functional partnership & collaboration, efficiency and/or policy implementation
IDEA (Outreach | Mentorship | Community)
The IDEA award is given in one or more of the following three areas:
Outreach: Honoring significant efforts to increase current and/or future diverse representation at the Lab.
Mentorship: Significant efforts to foster belonging and access to opportunities for career advancement for employees regardless of background.
Lab Community: Significant efforts to cultivate networks of support and build cultures of inclusion at the Lab.
Early Scientific Career: To foster the next generation of scientific discovery, this award category recognizes scientists early in their career (typically 0-10 years after PhD) who have made substantial contributions leading to important progress in an area of research or completion of a project.
Safety: Recognizes exceptional accomplishments or leadership in promoting a safety culture at Berkeley Lab.
Scientific: Honors exceptional scientific or technical contributions leading to important progress in an area of research or completion of a project
Societal Impact: Recognizes outstanding research that furthers solutions to large social problems or that has truly improved the world.
Tech Transfer: For exemplary efforts in entrepreneurism, building relationships with industry or intellectual property achievements that have an impact on society’s health and economy.
