Up to two awards ($15,000 each) presented to individuals to honor career-spanning exceptional achievements and contributions in one or more of the following three areas: Scientific | Operations | Societal Impact
Director’s Award for Exceptional Achievement
Around 15 individual (up to $5,000) or team (up to $5,000) awards are presented in any of the following ten areas of achievement:
The Berkeley Lab Citation: For extraordinary achievements in broad categories of science and operations, with special focus on service to the Lab and/or the DOE National Lab complex.
Scientific: Significant scientific or technical contribution(s) leading to important progress in an area of research or toward completion of a project.
Early Scientific Career: Significant scientific or technical contribution(s) leading to important progress in an area of research or toward completion of a project (typically 0-10 years after Ph.D.).
Safety: Achievement in leading and/or promoting safety culture.
Operations: Achievement in operational effectiveness, process re-engineering or improvement, resource management and efficiency, or partnerships across organizational/departmental boundaries.
Service: Assistance provided in a spirit of cooperation and commitment to excellence.
Tech Transfer: Entrepreneurism and relations with industry that have an impact on the health and/or economy of society.
Outreach: Promoting the Lab’s educational mission or improving community relations.
Diversity: Mentoring and leadership roles in organizations with the goal of promoting diversity.
Societal Impact: Solving important challenges for society, research that furthers solutions to large social problems, or scientific breakthroughs that have improved the world.
